Pinhão is located between the river with the same name and the Douro River. Besides several «Quintas» (Wine Estates) surrounded by an enormity of vineyards, it has also the most beautiful railway station, one of the most beautiful ones in Portugal decorated with 25 panels of tiles depicting the Douro vineyards and valleys.

It is also considered the headquarters of many Port Wine companies and has the biggest «Casa do Douro» (House of the Douro), with several warehouses and capacity to store over 1000 casks of the wonderful nectar, which was transported to Gaia for the first time precisely in 1678, in the traditional Rabelo Boats.
Within the traditional cuisine it should be mentioned the chestnuts soup and the «Borrachão» (drunk) cake, prepared with wine, without forgetting the many almond sweets.

One of the best hotels in Europe, facing the Douro River, is located in this village, classified as the heart of the valleys of the Douro.
